Built during the 1880s, the Pendini Hotel rises above the storefronts of Piazza della Repubblica. The Abolaffio brothers, Emmanuele and David, took over this former pensione in 1994 and have since installed double-glazing on all windows so that street noise has virtually disappeared. All bathrooms have also been redone in green tiles with large bathtubs. Many guestrooms boast an airy country style, with original and reproduction antiques and brass-framed beds. The lounge, offering 24-hour bar service, contains a comfortable mélange of 19th-century furnishings with scattered rugs, plus a computer with free Internet access. The breakfast room, now located in a redecorated large room, offers a view on the whole Via Strozzi.
